Why You Should Never Let Your Traffic Tickets Pile Up

No one really enjoys receiving a traffic ticket or being informed that they made a traffic violation. What people enjoy even less is when they have to pay up for these traffic related issues. While most of the time traffic tickets and violations are not hefty sums and can be paid off rather easily, once piled up they can become a big problem. If you have received a ticket, here are the options you have.

What was once just a small traffic ticket fee has now turned into something far worse and probably a lot more money as well. While traffic violations can be bothersome to deal with, they become truly bothersome when left alone for too long.

Here’s what can happen if you don’t pay your dues on time.

License Issues

If this is a first time offense then you probably don’t have to worry as much. However, if this isn’t the first time and you’ve been caught violating multiple times and still failed to deliver, then you might have a problem. Authorities can suspend, or even revoke your license depending on the frequency or type of violations you’ve committed.

If your license does get revoked, it means that you are unable to drive until you get your license back. This process could take up to a year depending on state laws. So it’s always a smarter idea to just pay your dues and enjoy driving around, or have that privilege stripped away.

Much Larger Fees

While the initial traffic ticket fee might not be a lot, if you do not pay up and keep waiting then that original sum can double or even triple depending on how far you want to push it. This will not include other fees which might be put on you for delaying your initial dues.

Your car may get booted, which means now you have an additional booting fees. Failure to pay up may also result in your car being towed away and stored in an impound. This requires additional fees for the towing and the storage of your vehicle. All these piled together can definitely leave a huge dent in your wallet, which could’ve been easily avoided had you initially paid your dues.

Jail Time

When initially charged with a traffic ticket or violation, you might receive a “summons” to court. Failure to follow through with your dues and not show up in court can lead to scenarios where they issue a warrant for your arrest and you can end up serving time in jail. The court might also offer you the chance to do community service or take traffic school classes if your violation wasn’t that big. However, putting off even the tiniest violations can end up with some huge consequences.
